Naïka's Design Journal: Quarantine Edition

Like many of you, this quarantine has me tackling a hefty to do list. You know that ongoing list of random things you need to do around the house? That one! One of the items on my list was to spruce up my closet with an accent wall. I used this opportunity to organize too. Adding an accent wall to your closet is a great way to get your toes wet with some color and pattern if the other walls in the space are neutral.

One of the items on my list was to spruce up my closet with an accent wall. I used this opportunity to organize too. Adding an accent wall to your closet is a great way to get your toes wet with some color and pattern if the other walls in the space are neutral. ly. I purchased 1 qt of Glidden dark sage from Home Depot and couple brushes with sturdy bristles. I taped up the wall edges and trim with painter's tape and got to work. All in all this project took me 4-5 hours. I'm super pleased with the outcome and looking forward to painting more accent walls. Enjoy the before + after pictures and tips below!

TIPS

Practice

- Use a large sheet of cardboard to practice patterns with different brush sizes and different brush strokes. Do this until you feel comfortable enough to move to the wall.

Prep

- Use a cloth\sponge dampened with water and soap to wipe down the wall(s) to be painted. This will remove dust and dirt. Rinse with clean cloth.

- Use painters tape to tape off the edge of the ceiling, floor trim and walls that aren't being painted. Also use painters tape for straight lines if your pattern calls for it.

- Lay down canvas, to protect your floors.

Fun

- Use a cloth\sponge dampened with water and soap by Kelly Wearstler in a forest green color. I know, dreamy right. Come to find out it's a lot harder to mimic than I thought. You need a steady hand for those arcs and a couple of different brushes too. I quickly realized my carpal tunnel wouldn't allow this. So I improvised, I used the vertical pattern on the wallpaper as inspiration and left out the arcs entirely. I purchased 1 qt of
